Mountadam Vineyards is an iconic Australian family owned and operated winery located in the High Eden sub-region of Eden Valley, Barossa, South Australia. Established in 1972 by the late David Wynn, Mountadam was named after Wynn's son Adam who in 1984 became the company winemaker. Wynn is without question one of the most significant contributors to the Australian Wine Industry — the first to recognise the potential of a cool, elevated site to produce Australian wines of great elegance and structure. In 2005, David and Jenni Brown purchased Mountadam Vineyards from LVMH. In late 2015 the Browns acquired the second, High Eden vineyard established by Wynn (as part of the Wynns group which would later become part of Treasury Wine Estates). The two vineyards are dissected by High Eden road. The Brown family are keen to continue Wynn's vision to produce wines of elegance and structure. A focus on sustainable low input viticulture will guarantee the success of the vineyards into the future. The High Eden sub-region was entered in the Register of Protected Names on 28 August 2001. It is a somewhat oval shaped area in the South Western part of the geographical region of Eden Valley and is slightly less than 40 square kilometres. It is the highest point of Eden Valley with the average height above sea level being more than 500 metres (up to 600 metres). The sub-region can be up to 1 month later in harvesting than other Eden Valley vineyards. It is characterised by its cool temperatures and strong winds. When David Wynn bought Mountadam he took his artist friend Tate Adams to look over the property and come up with a design for the wine label. While walking on the property, two eagles were circling and Wynn told Adams that they were nesting on a tree on the property. Adams designed and made two engravings incorporating the eagle.
